🌾✨ BSPB Unveils 12 High-Performing Forage Maize Varieties for 2026!

NIAB (National Institute of Agricultural Botany) on behalf of BSPB (British Society of Plant Breeders) published the 2026 Forage Maize Descriptive Lists. 

Twelve new maize varieties have been added to the 2026 Forage Maize Descriptive Lists. These are split across lists for ā€œFavourable First Choiceā€, ā€œFavourable Second Choiceā€, and ā€œFirst Choice for Less Favourable sitesā€.

Performance Highlights

Some of the standout performance statistics of the newly added varieties: 


KWS Zimo: Highest yielding new variety on the Favourable sites list — ~19.6 t DM/ha dry matter yield; ME yield ~230 kMJ/ha; starch ~6.90 t/ha. 

SU Addition: Nearly equal in dry matter yield (~19.5 t DM/ha); ME ~221 kMJ/ha; starch ~6.02 t/ha.


KWS Reo: Highest starch yield among all new varieties — ~7.08 t/ha starch. 

For Less Favourable sites:


LG31152 is the top new variety in dry matter yield (~18.5 t DM/ha) among the less favourable sites first choice list. 

KWS Reo again shows high performance in ME yield (222 kMJ/ha) and high starch yield (~7.29 t/ha at 37% dry matter) under less favourable conditions.
