Brazil, the world’s largest sugar producer and exporter, is expected to see a significant increase in sugar production during the 2025–26 season, according to projections by market consultancy Datagro.

The report estimates total sugar output at 41.42 million tonnes, up from the previous season’s figures, driven by favorable weather conditions, improved cane yields, and steady investments in modern milling technology. Analysts attribute the rise to higher sugar recovery rates and a possible shift in the ethanol-sugar production balance, with mills likely to allocate more cane towards sugar due to firm global prices.

Datagro also noted that global sugar demand remains strong, particularly from Asia and the Middle East, which could help sustain export volumes from Brazil in the coming year.

Industry experts say the upbeat forecast could help stabilize global sugar prices, which have faced volatility amid concerns over supply disruptions in other key producing regions.
